Whether developing a personal or ecommerce website, designing a website can be a daunting endeavor. Luckily, with the right software and a sense of what the content should look like, creating a website can be quite easy.
There are three basic factors to consider before designing a website:
Design a good user interface. The elements in the web page such as sidebars, headers, footers and body should be well positioned and be in one position on all pages so that users can easily navigate from one page to another.
All pages should have the same header. Though the content in a website may lead to various repeating elements, designers should ensure that the top of the webpage remains the same.
Though the pages in a website may have varying elements, there should be proper ordering of elements. This can be accomplished by arranging the elements according to importance or topic.
Use a consistent style throughout the website. Though the website’s layout should offer some form of consistency, the general style of the website should give the layout some form of thematic harmony. Have one or two colors that do not clash. Do not use too many fonts or font styles. Cascading style sheets help to maintain a uniform style and make it easy to change various elements in the entire website without having to go through all the WebPages.
Maximize readability. Break the text into small sections for enhanced readability. This can be done through using subheadings and breaking down the content into sections. Use bold or different font size to show the importance of topics and their hierarchy. Use wider line spacing to make large chunks of text easier to read or break large paragraphs into smaller ones.
Make the website readable universally. Use standard HTML and do not include features or tags that are exclusive to certain browsers. Keep images small and optimized for the website. Ensure that the content provides a good balance of quality and speed.
Test the website by ensuring that all the links are functioning as desired and that images appear as expected.
Publish the website. Check on the status of links to ensure that they are still available. Take note of user suggestions on how the website can be improved.
Check against plagiarism. Content provided in the website should be original or obtained in a legal and ethical manner.
